Success Stories
ARTHUR was referred to us after a stay at the Veteran's
Hospital. He receives a small veteran benefit and has saved it up to purchase
a bus ticket to New York to be reunited with his family.
RANDON stayed here a few weeks and acknowledged to his
caseworker that he had a drinking problem. He stayed sober while here
and attended AA meetings until he was admitted into a local halfway house
for recovering substance abusers.
ANTHONY, his wife, and 4 children have been staying
here all month. Anthony works as a painter and has found a trailer to
rent, which he is working on repairing after work every day. They will
receive a donated truck. His two school age children did very well in
school last semester, with the little girl making honor roll.
CASSANDRA has a very sick grown daughter about whom
she is terribly worried, but she has been working the entire time she
has been here at various housekeeping positions (although she has a college
degree). She has now secured a full time position and she will rent a
trailer starting July 1st. In addition, she will receive a donated car
so that she can get to work and to the hospital to visit her daughter.
BOBBY is a paraplegic man who has been homeless for
a long time. He was referred to housing through case management and was
able to move in rather quickly once he received his monthly disability
check.
JUAN was on probation and homeless when he arrived here,
although he was employed as a painter. He worked hard, saved up enough
money to pay off his court costs and restitution, was released from Alachua
County Probation, and returned to Tampa to be with his wife and children.
